What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is the body’s response to fear, danger and threat.
As the brain can’t tell the difference between a real threat and an imagined one, it makes you react in exactly the same way to both. Your body responds by producing adrenaline.
If there was a real life-or-death threat around, this adrenaline would make you strong enough to fight the threat or fast enough to outrun it.
When the threat is in the form of worrying thoughts about something, you find that your body still reacts as though you are in fear for your life by increasing your heart rate, making your stomach churn, making you sweat or your mind go blank.

Is it any wonder you can’t sleep when you’re anxiously worrying about something?
The brain often learns to associate anxiety with certain situations, so will make you respond in the same way the next time you encounter the same situation again. And, if a lot of your worrying is done at nighttime, it can lead to difficulty falling asleep or waking throughout the night.
The brain is a pattern matching machine that looks for shortcuts; unfortunately this can lead to you creating an unhelpful reaction to certain things – also known as a bad habit.
The good news is you are not born with habits, you learn them. And if you can learn them, you can unlearn them.
Anxiety is something that a lot of people suffer from but don’t always feel comfortable talking about.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can really help to alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and give you a much calmer and more confident way to live your life.

Anxiety can manifest itself in many ways; causing you to suffer from panic attacks, get angry easily, have negative thoughts, feel low in mood, be unable to relax, over-think things and struggle to sleep.
It can have a devastating effect on your physical health too, by bringing on a range of additional symptoms such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and negative behaviour patterns such as over-eating, drinking too much and nail biting.
This can happen when you have too much stress in your life. A little bit of stress is not a bad thing, as it helps you to focus on the things you need to do and get them done at the right time.
What you don’t want is a build-up of stress or anxiety that makes you feel overwhelmed or unable to do even the most basic things. When you feel overwhelmed you tend to put things off and procrastinate and this can then negatively affect every aspect of your life.
Anxiety can strike suddenly, due to a particular incident or event in your life but often it will build up gradually over a period of weeks, months or even years without you realising it. This build up can leave you feeling as though you can’t cope any more.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy offers a gentle approach to enable you to solve any problem.
By helping you to think, feel and behave in a more positive way, you are able to see things from a different perspective deal with things in a better way and overcome difficulties.
By teaching you basic relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques, I can help you take back control.

Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation which you will become better at the more you practice. By learning to let go of worries and relax, you lower your overall level of anxiety, which allows you to see things much more clearly and rationally.
The subconscious part of your brain can’t tell the difference between imagination and reality so, by using positive language and guided visualisation, your brain begins to image how it would like things to be and so enable those changes to take place.
